	<p>And now it’s come under fire from Premier Colin Barnett.</p>

	<p>He says the beach is ‘awful’ and the council has failed in its redevelopment plans.</p>

	<p>But City of Stirling Mayor David Boothman disagrees.</p>

	<p>He says the only thing holding up Scarborough’s redevelopment is the government’s refusal to provide funding.</p>

	<p>In fact, he’s spent the last four or five months trying to set up a meeting with the Premier to discuss the plans, and so far hasn’t been successful.</p>]]></description>

	<p>FuturePerth Chairman Sean Morrison has gone in to bat for the plan, saying it shouldn’t be interrupted by such a limited group of people.</p>

	<description><![CDATA[	<p>The Premier yesterday said that Senior Ministers of his government were looking closely at the idea of reforming parts of the former state owned utility, Western Power.</p>

	<p>The utility was split into four components by the former Labor administration. The current administration is talking about taking two elements, the generation side of things which is handled by Verve, and the sales aspect of business, controlled by Synergy.</p>

	<p>Apparently much of what we’ve seen in terms of price increases can be explained away by this split between generation and sale.</p>

	<p>To get a better idea of how an energy market works Ben Ainslie was joined by Dr Hiroaki Suenaga a research fellow at Curtin University.</p>]]></description>

	<title>No Earth out of Fremantle</title>

	<description><![CDATA[	<p>Fremantle Independent MP Adele Carles is calling on the State Government to stop the proposed export of Rare Earths by Lynas Corporation through the Fremantle Port.</p>

	<p>Lynas Corporation intends exporting 33,000 tonnes per annum  of Rare Earth concentrate from its Mount Weld mine near Laverton, by trucking it to Fremantle and then shipping it to the town of Kuantan on the east coast of Malaysia for refining.</p>

	<p>The mine is expected to operate for at least 20 years.  The Rare Earth ores are higher in radioactivity than normal soils and typically contain low levels of radioactive elements thorium and uranium.</p>

	<p>Despite Government claims that the radiation levels are low enough to designate the material as ‘non-hazardous for transport’, Ms Carles remains unconvinced that the material is absolutely safe.</p>
