	<title>Native title Agreement Ushers New Dawn</title>

	<description><![CDATA[	<p>The State Government is hoping to settle the long-running native title claim over Perth and the South West region with a 1-billion-dollar package offered to Noongar people.</p>

	<p>The deal could be the biggest native title settlement in Australian history and will place the billion-dollar sum into a trust fund in installments, to be accessed only after 10 years.</p>

	<p>In return, the Noongar people will relinquish all native title claims forever, paving the way for development in property and industry.</p>

	<p>The deal’s been received pretty positively by local native title representatives.</p>

	<p>And the State Government’s also trying to convince the Federal Government to honour its Keating-era promise of paying 75% of the costs of the settlement.</p>

	<description><![CDATA[	<p>In 2002 Dr Teck Young Wee volunteered to offer his medical skills to Afghan refugees in the Pakistani border town of Quetta.</p>

	<p>It was there he first met the spirited Afghan youth who would inspire him and change the course of his life.</p>

	<p>Abandoning his medical practice in Singapore, Teck Young Wee travelled to Afghanistan itself for the first time in 2004, learning the language and living and working among its people &#8211; not as a doctor, but as a peace activist dedicated to building bridges between the bitterly divided ethnic communities of the war-torn country &#8211; and exploring ways that the neglected voices of the Afghan war &#8211; the Afghan people themselves, and in particular Afghan youth &#8211; could be heard by the wider world.</p>

	<p>Given the name Dr Hakim, he is now the coordinator of the Afghan Youth Peace Volunteers.</p>

	<p>He was recently in Australia on a speaking tour alongside the renowned American peace campaigner Kathy Kelly &#8211; Alex Whisson and Ray Grenfell of the Indymedia team had the chance to catch up with him…</p>]]></description>

	<p>With <span class="caps">CHOGM</span> arriving in Perth, it seems that people don’t really know what the Commonwealth does or why member states spend money to support it.</p>

	<p>The Royal Commonwealth Society (<span class="caps">RCS</span>) is an education charity working to promote international understanding through the vehicle of the modern commonwealth.</p>

	<p>A couple of years ago, they held the Commonwealth Conversation, the largest ever public consultation on the future of the Commonwealth and the subsequent report called on the Commonwealth to implement bold changes and prove its worth as an association.</p>

	<p>Chair of the <span class="caps">RCS</span> Peter Kelner joined Bren at the Parmilia earlier today.</p>]]></description>
