Q & A

How long have you been with RTRFM?
8 years

How did you become involved with the station and your program?
Sat Rewind kicked off at the beginning of 08. It’s a super fun program, I get to be a little indulgent and play some of my fave old school indie tunes and listen to highlights of the week’s programming on RTR.

The RTR good times started rolling in 2000 when the lovely Sarah Delfante (Tuesday Drive) introduced this wide eyed media student to then RTR admin gal Bec McGilvray. I got busy answering phones and filing CDs for a while until I was given a crack on Drastic on Plastic. I did a bit of that for a while, a bit of this for a while and ended up in the Morning Magazine chair. That is the show I hold most dear and ended up producing it and being a full time part of the furniture for a couple of years. I also got to spend every morning in the company of Peter Barr producing Breakfast. I opened the studio door at 7am every day and yet it still gave him a fright when he looked up with his headphones cranking to see me in the chair opposite. Maybe that says more about me in the morning than him. Good times.

What do you enjoy most about presenting?
Hearing people’s stories and asking questions, it’s always been more about interviewing and talks for me than the music. A Mr Bob Gordon once told me that an interview I did made him sit in the car at his destination until it finished. That’s probably the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me but it also captures what I love about radio as a medium – it’s engaging and personal.

Strangest experience at RTRFM?

Being made to eat a freakin’ banana with Peter Barr on air for Radiothon 2006. I audibly gagged.

Barr and I made the mistake of exposing our disdain for the smelly yellow fruit and were made to suffer for exposing this weakness. I’m not cheap though, I wouldn’t do banana for anything less than a Business subscription.

Favourite RTRFM program/s?

Morning Magazine, Breakfast and Tuesday Drivetime

What do you do in real life?

I work for the man, man. But at least it’s the fun Government Department.
