Chris Wheeldon

Chris has been involved in RTR for over four years including a work experience stint in the 1990’s. He began as a office volunteer before taking the reins of the local music program Homegrown and a stint on Wednesday’s Drivetime.

Q & A

How did you become involved with the station and your program?

I began volunteering in March 2007, hanging out in the library and on reception, before doing my first hour of radio on Homegrown during the 2007 Radiothon with the bearded one (Ross Chisolm). I presented Drivetime on Wednesday for a year or so before travelling. I do Homegrown and fill in when ever needed

How long have you been with RTRFM?

Since 2007. First stepped into the studio during March 2007. Although I did complete a week of work experience back in 1998 as a Year 10 grunge kid.

What do you enjoy most about presenting?

Getting to sit in a room for a few hours and listen to brand new music, and a few older tracks. I love the idea of presenting new music to people so that they can go forth and discover more about a particular band or genre.

Strangest experience at RTRFM?

During 2007 Radiothon, the whole thing was madness. Making my debut during this time was a strange experience and has set me up to let everything else just flow.

Listening to Ross ramble on about his family trees and learning so much about WA music history.

Favourite RTRFM program/s?

Out To Lunch, Breakfast with Barr, Homegrown, Posted.

What do you do in real life?

I am the Office Manager at RTRFM. Looking after volunteers, training, admin and occasionally everything. I also do a bit of writing around time.
