DJ Neli

Neli’s love of electronic music goes back a long way, and far from thinking it ‘All sounds the same’ and ‘doesn’t have any soul’ he fully embraced the genre from warehouse raves back in his native England to Bush Doofs in Queensland. He didn’t so much buy his first set of decks, rather evolved them from old hi-fi parts and egg cartons until he had something that was good enough to showcase his DJ skills. Now, fully ensconced in Perth, his real decks allow him to continue to feed his vinyl addiction which ranges from house, techno and dubstep on the one side to hip-hop, rare groove and funk on the other covering all electronic bases in-between.

Currently part of the Mutation collective, he is now on a mission to permeate dance music into every other genre until world domination ensues!

Q & A

How did you become involved with the station and your program?
I’ve been a DJ for years but Mark Davies (Rockin’ the Roots) persuaded me to take to the airwaves and present my dulcet tones to the world. I’ve always been fond of a re-edit or two so I answered the clarion call for presenters on the new(ish) remix show Mutation

What is the first record you bought?
Apart from presents at Xmas the first record I actually went to buy myself was probably the England Football Team 1982 World Cup Album featuring Kevin Keegan performing a version of Queen’s “We are the Champions” (I’m not making this up!)

How long have you been with RTRFM?
Since June 2010

What do you enjoy most about presenting?
It sounds like a cliché but the ability to share and showcase fantastic music (be it old or new) with an open minded audience.

Favourite RTRFM program/s?
Full Frequency and Mutation of course.

What do you do in real life?
Tap a few computer keys and generally try to look like I’m being busy
