Q & A
How did you become involved (with the station and your program/s)?
I was unlucky enough to be scheduled to host my first program the day after RTR’s predecessor, 6UVS FM was given the axe! I was going to host Still Dreaming, which was a show that played out there psychedelic music. I was just a schoolie, but John Smith (who was the program coordinator) gave me a chance to do my show. Luckily for me, when RTR started the next year, I managed to become one of the original hosts!
How long have you been with RTRFM?
I started in ’91 and hosted Still Dreaming on Tuesday nights, and Crossover on Saturday nights until ’94, when I moved to Sydney. Since I’ve been back, I’ve been doing Ambient Zone (since early ’05).
What do you enjoy most about presenting?
I’m loving getting the ever expanding world of ambient electro music out to the listeners. I can never hear this stuff when I go out, so it’s great to be able to provide a show where people can hear this music. It’s also great having people around the world regularly tune in on the internet. A few weeks back I discovered I had listeners in Egypt!
Strangest experience at RTRFM?
When a guest on my program had an epileptic fit in the studio while the microphone was on. Yes, that was a strange one. Or that time we lost power in the studio at midnight, up there on the third floor of the UWA studios… spooky!
Favourite RTRFM program/s?
My fave is probably Out to lunch, but I’m a regular listener of stacks of shows. I’m secretly a big fan of the Theatre Organ Time… that show does strange things to me when I’m waking up.
What do you do in real life?
I save the world from certain doom by doing good deeds in a cape and tight underpants… when I’m not doing that I’m a town planner deep down in the depths of city hall.
