Joe Cassidy

I have just finished a degree in Mass Communication with a major in Public Relations, however I found the dry world of ‘PR’ not quiet for me and instead focusing my sights in the ever changing and interesting world of journalism.

The storys that I find most interesting involve the Everyday, not in a lame commercial sense, but how ‘ordinary’ people have managed to accomplish amazing, interesting or bizarre things. Everybody has a story, and I like to find out what that is.

I love all kinds of music but really enjoy soul, funk, hip hop and go crazy for disco.

Q & A

How did you become involved with RTRFM?
I was aimlessly working and pondering the great questions of life while taking a break from my university degree when Bex Logan suggested I volunteer to help produce Morning Magazine, I enjoyed it so much that -with a bit of nudging Peter Barr, he lets me have a go ever now and again.

How long have you been with RTRFM?
Since about August 2008.

What do you enjoy most about presenting?
The chance to sound slightly proffessional and offer interesting and informative media to a local audience from a local perspective, free of the often nasty constraints of commercial radio and *What do you enjoy most about presenting? *a mass media approach. And access to a plethora of awesome music and fun people is pretty great too.

Strangest experience at RTRFM?
On my second Morning Mag show, I was about to interview an actor performing in a local production of Little Shop of Horrors when the producer informed me, a few seconds before going to air, I would actually be talking to the character he was playing… which was a man eating plant. Turned out to be a pretty fun interview.

Favourite RTRFM Program/s?
I love Full Frequency, El Ritmo, Soulsides, Black and Blue, All City and a Pocket Disco and pretty much all the shows where you can tell the presenters have an unabashed passion and enthusiasm for their genre(s).

What do you do in real life?
Live, Love and Laugh! And after graduating from university… get out of the PR industry and find a job in journalism.
