Q & A

How did you become involved with the station and your program?

Jack Warner invited me to guest-present Acoustic Café with him (when it used to be in the Sunday 6-8pm slot) and I bumped into Naomi Millett who was looking for co-presenters for The Guitar Show. I happen to love guitars and am nuts about any sort of guitar music so I nervously volunteered my services… the rest, as they say, is history…

How long have you been with RTRFM?

Over 2 years.

What do you enjoy most about presenting?

Sharing music that doesn’t often get airplay anywhere else, hearing what listeners have to say when they ring up. The lovely synergy when co-presenting with Naomi, Neil or Graham. It’s a special feeling to be part of a non-profit volunteer-based community radio station run by individuals committed to providing a quality alternative for the listening public.

Strangest experience at RTRFM?

Probably more embarrassing than strange… The first time I handed over to Difficult Listening (Sundays, 9-11pm), I helpfully told Sarah that the CD player that was playing her opening track sounded like it was creaking. Without batting an eyelid, like the lovely, kind, calm person that she is, she said very gently, “No, that IS the actual music.” Ooooooopps!

Favourite RTRFM program/s?

Apart from Plucked Strings (of course), I love the weekend music programs (because that’s the only time I have time to listen to the radio) – Saturday Jazz, Giant Steps, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Drastic on Plastic, Rockin’ the Roots. When I do get a chance during the week, a bit of Breakfast with Barr and Acoustic Cafe.

What do you do in real life?

I work at Western Power as a strategic procurement analyst.
