Q & A

How did you become involved with the station and your program?

At first, I was a guest, invited to talk about movies and latest release nostalgia CDs and videos (I had an exclusive shop dealing with these products called That’s Entertainment, in Claremont .

How long have you been with rtrfm?

Since 1985.

What do you enjoy most about presenting?

Communicating with the public as well as informing them of history and information relating to the artists being played or the songs that were being sung… and getting a rewarding feedback from this.

Strangest experience at RTRFM?

I used to arrange special fundraising ‘nostalgia’ film presentations at the New Oxford Theatre (now known as Luna). One film we presented was a restored three hour version (with an extra 35 minutes of footage) of the Warner Bros. film A Star Is Born starring Judy Garland and James Mason. The film was a sold out smash hit for our special 1pm screening on a Sunday afternoon… so much so that we had to re-screen it a fortnight later.

The management of the theatre were overwhelmed and actually booked the film themselves for an exclusive engagement which lasted many weeks. The owner of the theatre was very impressed and became a loyal supporter of RTRFM. We had many other successful screenings there, for a period of about 10 years. This owner of the cinema, Mr.Cyril Watson, is the now owner of the Piccadilly Theatre in Perth , and is still a great supporter of our station.

favourite RTRFM program/s?

Nostalgia.

What do you do in real life?

I recently sold my business and now act as a carer for my 95 year old father.
