Q & A

How did you become involved?
I met Tim Walker at the Perth Blues Club about 8 years ago and was discussing the fact that I was presenting a number of shows on another Community Radio Station in the Southern Suburbs, they were looking for another announcer in his collective so I joined RTR a short time later.

How long have you been with RTRFM?
I have been with RTR for going on 8 years.

What do you enjoy most about presenting?
The opportunity to present a number of diverse artists from Australia and overseas, meeting up with the artists when they tour W.A. and having the opportunity to interview them in a very intimate situation, when they play live in the studio I am the captive audience and I have experienced many great moments. I also appreciate the listeners who take the time to ring up and have a casual chat regarding the show, they are my inspiration.

Strangest experience at RTRFM?
The night Corey Harris and Henry Butler came in for an interview, they had just arrived from a long International flight and basically came straight to the studio from the airport suffering a little from the journey. I had just asked Corey a question regarding their tour and was doing the normal things like organising the next track to play and fiddling with buttons on the desk and realised Corey hadn’t responded, I looked over to Corey and noticed him slumped in the chair sound asleep, of course Henry was unaware of the situation as he is blind so I went to a track and proceeded to gently awaken Corey from his impromptu slumber, the rest of the interview went well, we finished the show and I took him back to the Indi Bar where he was staying and kicked on for a while longer, some of the stuff we talked about later at his hotel would have been interesting stuff for the show.

Favourite RTRFM programs?
Spoonful of Blues, Sunday Morning Coming Down.

What do you do in real life?
I have been driving a Concrete Truck for the last seven years but am just starting a new career as Jetty Loading Master which will also incorporate Cargo and Storage facility verifications and pipeline pressure testing, a new challenge which I am eagerly looking forward to. I play golf and travel to Thailand to compete in organized competitions at least twice a year. I am still very involved with different aspects of music including Road Managing Lloyd Spiegel when he tours W.A. I have just done an MC stint at Bridgetown Blues Festival where I met up with a whole bunch of artists that I hadn’t seen for a while. Basically I live a good life with plenty of freedom to do what I want, life is great.
