Q & A
How did you become involved with RTR?
I was headhunted by the Supreme Grand Poohbah of an RTR show called Darkwings. Having heard of my sonic exploits presenting the Vortexx show on another radio station and my adventures as the Dance Commander at alternative nightclubs he drew me into the strange attractor that is RTR.
Darkwings ran for many, many years and for a long time we through it might last forever. Those were the days when we lived in the wilderness, before RTR came to orbit Planet. Over the years however, the toxic effects of Darkwings came to show on the members of our collective and one by one they fell by the wayside, although somehow I managed to avoid the worst of it.
The Grand Poohbah ascended to the realms of leather and steel. Sutekh became obsessed with the component Darkwings chemicals and their effects on mortals, hiding away for weeks, then years. Even my co-pilot Captain Goth eventually succumbed and had to retire for fear of losing what little remained of his sanity. New initiates were inducted into the ways of Darkwings, but they too fell away. Boxer broke on through to the other side, Evac fell through a shadow in the floor and was never seen again, although sometimes when it is quiet I think I hear his cries. Toby started ranting in another language then fled to the other side of the world on some mad quest. In the closing days of the Darkwings era, only Ms Ferox stood with me still.
For some time after that I wandered the sound alone, feeling at the harmonics for the right time to return. Time and again Zanthus attempted to lure me back into the studio, but I resisted. Toxic levels of Darkwings still flowed in my veins. Finally, with a casting of bones and offerings of great power, Renfield convinced me to join those Behind the Mirror. Bound in into service with unspeakable rituals, I now assist this motley crew to expose the darker side of humanity through sound and words.
How long have you been with RTRFM?
For many years. Before the time of the red building. It is hazy with distance now, but it was in the time the station operated from UWA, It must have been the mid 1990’s.
What do you enjoy most about presenting?
Presenting late at night allows a flexibility in show structure that the daytime does not allow. The freedom to take my listeners on a sonic journey, the freedom to open their inner cinema and the ability to share things that might otherwise not be heard.
And of course studio monitor speakers.
Strangest experience at RTRFM?
Seeing other people. On late night shifts it is unusual to see anyone else about except the ghosts of the lost and the damned.
Favorite programs?
That depends what day it is. The all have something to offer. This is the way of RTR.
What do you do in real life?
Energy and Power.
