Q & A
How did you become involved?
I was at the Fairbridge music festival and was introduced to Fiona Ferguson who was a presenter on the old Folkwest programme on RTR. We got talking and told her I presented the “Only Folking” radio show on Heritage FM. I lent her some cds from my vast collection to air on the showand a few weeks later was asked to be a guest presenter, after which I was asked to join the team of presenters.
How long have you been with RTRFM?
I have been with RTR some 6 or 7 years now, presenting both Acoustic Cafe in its various guises, Big Star and soon the Guitar Show.
What do you enjoy most about presenting?
I enjoy playing the music I enjoy to the public, introducing the latest releases and news from the folk and acoustic scene and getting to interview and meet some truly inspiring and interesting artists and groups. I also love putting a show together – the planning and deciding which tracks go with which or trying to link artists, producers or songs together to make the show more interesting.
Strangest experience at RTRFM?
My strangest experience was getting a number of calls for requests and being asked for Cliff Richard, the Nolans and others totally unrelated to the show. I know it was a wind-up but none of my firnds have ever owned up to it! Here’s their chance!
Your current favourite release?
Current favourite release is Beautiful Catastrophe by Khin Myint, jut can’t stop playing the opening track “Things We Do For Love”.
Your favourite RTRFM program?
Favourite RTR programmes after (Acoustic Cafe of course!) are Global Rhythm Pot, Sunday Morning Coming Down and The Guitar Show.
What do you do in real life?
In real life I’m a photogrammetrist – sounds interesting doesn’t it?! Basically it’s computer mapping from aerial photography (a branch of surveying).
