Richard Saunders
Richards love of jazz developed back in the UK, when at the age of 15 he first listened to a Miles Davis All Stars recording, “Sippin’ at Bell’s” recorded in 1947 and featuring Charlie Parker on tenor saxophone. It was then he knew he was hooked and no other musical style talked to him in quite the same way ever again.
Richard moved to Australia in 1998 bringing with him, not just his extensive music collection, but his musical passion too!
It wasn’t however until 2009 that he decided to join a Community Radio station where he enjoyed sharing this passion with his listeners. The programme, “10 ‘til Late” was born, featuring a blend of styles from bebop, free jazz, jazz funk, fusion to smooth from artists all over the globe.
His greatest influences to name just a few, are Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Bob Berg and of course, Michael Brecker.
With his move to RTR, Richard is again sharing his love of jazz through the programme “Giant Steps”, featuring an eclectic mix of local, national and international artists.
