The clouds may have finally opened up and given us the rain we badly need, but in some other parts of the state, the water situation isn’t as bad as we think.

While some places are suffering through an extremely dry winter, others are flourishing.

The latest election row is over the Murray-Darling basin – it needs more water and both Labor and the Coalition have promised billions of litresof water to be thrown its way.

But one place that’s got water in a surplus is Lake Eyre.

For the second year in a row flooding rains have reached the lake causing an explosion of life.

To take us out on the river, we’ve got our very own outback adventurer.

Rex Ellis has witnessed every flooding of the river for 50 years, and Meri Fatin spoke to him on Morning Magazine.
