On August 13 last year a 54-old man was crushed to death by a 20-year old student who was driving intoxicated.

The young man was earlier ejected from the University of Western Australia’s Camp for Kids function held in the on-campus tavern and proceeded to drive home registering a blood alcohol level of 0.136.

His lawyer stated that his client was “egged on” to drink on the function and explained that drinking had an “inordinately high role in university life.”

Marie Bout examined the alcohol culture surrounding University life with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Western Australia Professor Alan Robson, on Morning Magazine.
