A recent study by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown that identity fraud is one of the country’s fastest growing crimes, costing about one billion dollars annually.

And it can provide funds for a whole host of serious offences like drug trafficking and people smuggling.

It seems we’re exposing themselves more readily by throwing out information that’s valuable to fraudsters – ‘bin raiding’ is our downfall.

It’s National Identity Fraud Awareness Week and Crime Stoppers is urging you to be vigilant about destroying personal documents before they go in the bin.

Paul Ledingham spoke to Crime Stoppers CEO Peter Price on Morning Magazine.
