A highlight of the Perth International Arts Festival is the performance of “Life and Fate” by the world renowned Maly Drama Theatre from St Petersburg.
Maly’s Artistic Director Lev Doe-dinn spent four years adapting for the stage Vasily Grossman’s 1960 Russian novel “Life and Fate” – which is often compared in its size and scope to Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
The play is a sweeping tale across history, politics, friendship and most importantly, family and its moral dilemmas, poignancy and romance absorb an audience completely.
Meri Fatin spoke with Dina Dodina, International Projects Manager for Maly Drama Theatre, and niece of Artistic Director Lev Dodin and asked her to explain the story within ‘Life and Fate’.
