It’s difficult to understate the legacy of contemporary Scottish novelist Irvine Welsh.
Best known for his novel Trainspotting, he’s also written plays and screenplays, and directed several short films.
Irvine Welsh’s bestsellers push the boundaries of literary fiction with themes of working class struggle, football, homosexuality, sex, drug use and Scottish identity from the 60’s through to present day.
Welsh’s latest works include Reheated Cabbage – a collection of short stories and Skagboys, the prequel to Irvine’s 1993 novel Trainspotting.
Jamie Macdonald caught up with Irvine Welsh ahead of his appearance at the Perth Writer’s Festival.
