Australia’s largest collaborative whale research voyage is on its way to Antarctica.
Seventeen scientists and support personnel, led by Australian Antarctic Division’s Dr Nick Gales, sailed out of Wellington this week towards the Ross Sea.
Over the next six weeks the Australian, New Zealand and French research team will study humpback, Antarctic minke and blue whales to better understand how they interact with sea ice and use their environment.
These findings will provide information to assist in the future conservation of whales.
Australian Antarctic Division’s Dr Nick Gales joined Travis Collins LIVE from the RV Tangaroa on Morning Magazine.
