It’s been many years since Jimmy LaValle could be heard plying his post-rock trade in bands such as Tristeza.
For the past decade, a little beast that started as a side project has blossomed into his sole focus, The Album Leaf. His new album in that guise, A Chorus of Story Tellers, follows in the mold of his previous work – beautiful downbeat electronics, with just the odd Icelandic dash of Sigur Ros here and there and the occasional placid vocal. It’s a work replete with shimmering beauty, with tracks bound to show up on countless soundtracks and tv shows. That’s fine, it’s best when the great stuff does this. Patrick Pittman caught up with Jimmy to talk about the new album, and found him on the road to Portland.
