The death of respected Aboriginal elder Mr Ward in January 2008 whilst being transported 400 kilometers to be charged over a drink driving charge has haunted the State Government ever since with claims that unnecessary delays over compensation have intensified the family’s loss.

Yesterday the issue was settled with the government agreeing to pay $3.2 million to his immediate family.

Chief executive officer of the aboriginal legal service, Dennis Eggington, joined Bren Mcgurk to comment on this acknowledgement by the State Government of past failings.
