Freo Heave-Ho! It’s that time of the week again…Move ‘em on, head ‘em up, Head ‘em up, move ‘em out, Move ‘em on, head ‘em out Movie Squad! Set ‘em out, ride ‘em in, Ride ‘em in, let ‘em out, Cut ‘em out, ride ‘em in Movie Squad!

Paul ‘Pavlich’ Grace and Anita ‘McPharlin’ Walker join Peter ‘Sandilands’ Barr for another edition of the Emmy and Oscar award winning Movie Squad.

‘The Other Guys’ – directed by Adam McKay. Starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L Jackson, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan.

Synopsis:NYPD Detectives Christopher Danson and P.K. Highsmith (Johnson and Jackson) are the baddest and most beloved cops in New York City. They don’t get tattoos – other men get tattoos of them. Two desks over and one back, sit Detectives Allen Gamble (Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg). You’ve seen them in the background of photos of Danson and Highsmith, out of focus and eyes closed. They’re not heroes – they’re “the Other Guys.” But every cop has his or her day and soon Gamble and Hoitz stumble into a seemingly innocuous case no other detective wants to touch that could turn into New York City’s biggest crime. It’s the opportunity of their lives, but do these guys have the right stuff?

Review (PG): You know when you’re just describing the plot and you’re laughing…it’s a good sign. The film is pretty damn funny. Ferrell and Wahlberg are a funny combination, they’re even funny to look at. Ferrell is not everyone’s cup of tea but I find him endearing compared to Adam Sandler who’s just obnoxious. Adam McKay directed Ferrell in Anchorman and I think he gets the best out of him. I laughed my ass off – it’s completely gone.

‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’ – directed by J Blakeson. Starring Gemma Arterton, Martin Compston, Eddie Marsan.

Synopsis: Two men fortify a nondescript British apartment so it can serve as a prison, and then kidnap a woman and tie her to a bed. Before there’s even time to react, we’re plunged into a very nasty situation, but not a simple one.

Review (AW): Eddie Marsan is a fantastic character actor. Arterton does a lot of acting with her eyes but it is a very strong performance. She certainly gets past damsel in distress vibe and is very feisty. The film fantastically created tension. There’s a little bit of toilet humour. The film is ingeniously constructed on a shoe string budget. The enclosed set and only 3 characters reminded me a certain favourite film of Mr Barr…can’t quite put my finger on it. I was pleasantly surprised. The twists and turns were great. The film is very confront and it challenges loyalties between the 3 characters. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.
