DJ Marky & Friends – The Master Plan
- Show
- Full Frequency,
- Published
- Wednesday 5th December
Label: Innerground/Inertia
The week after our annual party Spring in Sao Paulo seems as good a time as any to showcase the works of Brazilian drum ‘n bass maestro DJ Marky as the Full Frequency feature album.
His new offering is a mix-up of killer melodic d ‘n’ b from the likes of Calibre, Bungle, Utah Jazz and the man himself (teaming up with people like Makoto and Artificial Intelligence on productions and soulful Bristol kid Ben Westbeech on vocals). So, Disc One is Marky on the mix with a quickfire run through of 19 tracks that are neatly put together, with some nice mixing skills (okay, I’m sure Pro Tools helped out, but it sounds pretty live) and great transitions that keep things from sounding rushed and make sure there is a flow of sounds that build in to the still smooth but slightly more driving numbers by CABLE and A-Sides that round off the CD.
Disc Two is an offering of 10 of the mixed tracks in unmixed format (even though most serious d ‘n’ b DJs would probably already own all of these they wanted to own – how often is the bonus unmixed version useful to anyone, really?!).
All up, it’s a great collection for anyone who isn’t a deadly serious collector and should get anyone with even the slightest taste for d ‘n’ b grooving along to the smooth and summery tunes. Perfect evening accompaniment for the coming months…
