“Ladies and gentlemen welcome aboard flight 583, destination Capernicus Crater,” states the voice on the P.A aboard the space ship in which you sit for your journey with the Heliocentrics and their brand new album Out There.
The Heliocentrics are an eight-piece band headed and produced by relentless drummer Malcolm Catto. As well as being one of the best drummers around, Malcolm is also known in the record collector community as the ‘Baron’ for his impossibly rare collection and knowledge of funk music.
This album is one that should be listened to in its entirety, in that sense it’s a dying breed in the world of predominately one track wonder LPs designed for mp3 download.
Out There is Cosmic Jazz, Hip Hop (no rap), and Psychedelic-Space. One of the many things I love about this album is the lack of random jazz solos that can so often interrupt a good groove.
I have always wanted to travel to the Moon and so far listening to this album is as close as I’ve got. Once you’re on board there’s need to get off until you reach Capernicus Crater 63 hours later travelling at 3600 mph .
