To be able to capture a moment in life, and describe it so poetically is a hard thing to do. Not for Fyfe Dangerfield. In his debut solo album, Fly Yellow Moon, Fyfe has created a shameless pop-soul sound that is as fresh as the morning sun. The allure to go mainstream might appeal to a lot of musicians venturing on a solo journey, but what separates Fyfe from many others is his ability to fashion a pop record without it sounding like it has been over produced and stripped of all of its raw emotion. Fly Yellow Moon captures that moment of lovestruck joy effortlessly.
The opening track ‘When You Walk In The Room’ sets the theme for the remaining nine tracks (not including the two bonus tracks released on the Australian edition) which naturally ease into soul and folk sounds, without losing the pop element of the songs. The opener is also happens to be one of the standouts of the record. The more you listen to Fly Yellow Moon, the more you find yourself being captured by the sound Fyfe has produced.
Despite Fyfe’s bravery to release a non-mainstream pop album, it still has the potential to just become a lost sound, even with all of Fyfe’s talent. This is because it is difficult to find a balance between the industry and what the business side entails and actual music in modern times. Let’s just hope Fyfe sticks to his guns and his artistry shines through, because there could be a whole lot more for this solo artist.
