Sub Pop
One could argue always, but seemingly lately, Sub Pop has been putting out some good obscure indie pop / rock and alt.country. Fleet Foxes can be included therein.
These five fellows that hail from Seattle describe their sound as baroque harmonic pop jams – and I guess that’s pretty much spot on. Perhaps a good way to initiate some idea of their sound would be that to say Fleet Foxes have a touch of My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses about them. Gorgeous ethereal vocals laden with reverb certainly play a big part.
Alongside the plentiful harmonies instrumentation includes big rolling tom drums, mandolins, dulcimers, organ, piano and guitars – acoustic, electric and bass.
The feel of Fleet Foxes is crisp, clean west coast US – slightly psychadlic, but more folk influenced. The self titled full length debut from Fleet Foxes was produced by Phil Ek (Modest Mouse / Built To Spill / Shins) and serves as a welcome introduction to this relatively fresh faced group (incepted in 2006) that you’re bound to hear a lot more from and about in the near future.
