Mudhoney - The Lucky Ones

The Lucky Ones album is really, really good.
Since this is supposed to be a review, I could try and answer the question my first sentence raises and explain my reasons for writing it but, really, it’ll just a pile of wank. This album is really, really good – that’s all you need to know.
It’s always difficult reviewing a record like this, for there’s not a huge amount of innovation on this straight-up rock release. Mudhoney manage to sound a lot like The Stooges, but it seems coincidental rather than contrived; any similarity to Iggy is simply because they’re all passionate people writing bluesy rock. Every so often there’s the hint of a fuzzy guitar freak-out to throw something a bit off-centre in the mix, but for the most part this is simply solid, down-the-line rock that happens to be very, very good.
It really is as simple as that.
Editorial note: Compare this with Jack’s recent review on Andre Rieu – different but the same!
