The Soul Snatchers - Sniffin and Snatchin

Dutch group The Soul Snatchers aren’t doing anything new, but for a genre that’s fixed in the seventies, that’s not a bad thing. “Sniffin and Snatchin” is a platform heeled step back in time; clear platforms with fish in the soles!
This is straight up funk, with a little soul thrown in for good measure. Think big bass, James Brown style cries and singing trumpets. “Ask for Love” pays homage to ladies who sing the blues, featuring lovelorn, pleading vocals and familiar waltz timing, perfect for a ‘snowball’ style dance. The unfortunately titled “Granny’s Groove” is a guitar driven number, making funk accessible to non-believers and promises to get heads nodding. Each track explores different elements of the genre; there are slower grooves as well as ones to wiggle to.
To sit down and listen to this might be a big call, unless funk is your thing. For me, “Sniffin and Snatchin” would be complimented with some Sunday sunshine and a brew or two.
